Mattifer.net v2

Howdy y’all and welcome to version 2 of the family website. Maybe this makes up for going so long without posting any site to begin with, but we think that its overall design has made big strides.

We employed Daviet Design (a.k.a. ourselves) to revamp the site design. Gone are the days of dead links outnumbering the live ones — with a simple bit of reorganization, we now have two main areas: a photo gallery, and an online journal of family happenings. We hope it makes the site a bit easier to navigate and keep up with. You can thank Jenn for whipping it into gear.

Matthew did the behind-the-scenes tinkering, translating Jenn’s vision into reality (or as real as a set of pixels residing on a server in Hong Kong can truly be). The overall site runs on PHP, giving Matthew a chance to tinker around in yet another programming language. The journal continues to be powered by Movable Type, an excellent dynamic web-publishing system that is tailor-made for blogging. The biggest change was moving our photos from a local gallery application to Flickr, which allows us to do wonderful silly things like post comments, link albums, and browse the pics of complete strangers.

An additional tweak was adding the ability to subscribe to the blog by providing an email address. So whenever we publish a new journal entry or just want you to come visit, we can post a simple email containing a link to our new content. We went ahead and signed up most of the family on both sides — but if you want to sign up just to be sure that you are up-to-date on your strange North Dallas relatives that never seem to have time to call, please be our guest! :)

Overall, the changes make updating the site easier and fun. We hope that the same applies to your viewing experience. Visit often, comment often, and keep checking back as we add more content.
