Photo Shoot

We got the results from our Newborn Photo Shoot and they’re awesome. I, personally, can’t stop looking at them. I’m very excited to get some prints and frames and decorate the house.

Baby Shower at Matthew’s Office

Earlier today, my coworkers threw Zachary a baby shower.  And once again, Zachary reaped an embarrassment of riches.  We are truly blessed to have so many friends and family that care for us.

Everyone had a great time checking out Zachary.  And for him, it was a special treat, as it marked yet another big excursion for him.  He’s getting to be such a big boy!

Check out the photos from the event.  And check out the cake!  Oh. My. God. It was goooooooood!

By popular demand

Here are some new pictures of Zachary. At his last Dr. appointment, Tuesday March 10 he weighed 9 lbs. I have no doubt that by today he is at or close to 10 lbs. His length is 19 1/2 inches and head is 15.8.

Zachary Nicholas McGarity

As most of you probably know by now Matt and I welcomed our first child into the world January 10, 2009 at 1:19 p.m. He was 4 lb. 12.6 oz.

It was a total surprise to us (and that’s an understatement). I was literally sitting at home getting ready to paint some birds on the nursery walls with my Mother-in-Law, Mikie. Then, less than 4 hours later, I was staring into the eyes of our son. Never in a million years did we suspect he would arrive as early as he did – 6 1/2 weeks early to be exact. He was breech and was delivered by C section, and after a very brief meeting was whisked away to the NICU. I had a rough time with it initially, but after a few days settled into the schedule of visiting Zach 2 times a day. He stayed in the NICU for 3 weeks. Everyone at the hospital was wonderful, and Zach was well taken care of.

We brought Zach home Saturday, Jan. 31. Since then Matt and I have been buried in diapers, bottles and functioning on very little sleep. All of that is normal of course – but all new to us. Despite all the fatigue we are more happy than we could have ever imagined, and Zach is amazing. Here are a few pictures taken over the past week and a half since he’s been home.

Tuesday Zach went for his 1 month checkup. He’s now 6.4 lbs., 18.3 inches high, and doing great. His “report card” from the doctor was an A+!

Lots to update

We’ve got a lot to throw up on the blog. We’ve had Thanksgiving, a Baby Shower, and work on the nursery. Not to mention an expanding waistline. So here we go:

Thanksgiving 2008
Matt’s family came over Thursday morning to celebrate Turkey Day with us. Even though Matt spent a good chunk of the week worrying about the possibility of rain that day, things couldn’t have been more beautiful. So turkey frying was a go, and we fried 3 turkeys! One of them went home with Mike and his family, one went with Nick and Mikie, and the other was gobbled up. In this house, Thanksgiving day usually revolves around the Cowboys game, which was at 3. By the time everyone sat down for Pumpkin Pie and Better Than Anything Cake the game was under way. The Cowboys won! 34-9

First Baby Shower

The next day we drove to Baton Rouge for our first baby shower. Emily and Claire out did themselves (as usual). Everything was sooo cute!! Even though the cake wasn’t exactly what Em asked for, I would never have know because it was adorable. Em and Claire used blue and green jelly beans to decorate, and made adorable chocolate party favors. Emily even sewed cute fabric tablecloths to match the theme of blue and green. We had a good crowd, and I even got to see two of my oldest friends who I hadn’t seen in years, Hilary and Larissa. We got lots of good stuff, including a handmade quilt from Matt’s mom, Mikie. It’s beautiful! And we got the stroller we registered for. All in all we were feeling very blessed. The photo above was possible thanks to my niece, Stella. She thought I should wear her tiara – at least for one photo.

Here’s the cake.

And some of the decorations.

A few weeks ago – while he was visiting with Mom – Dad helped Matt assemble the crib we ordered. Then last Wednesday Matt single-handedly painted the nursery. That, along with all the stuff we got at the shower has been filling up the once empty room. Nothing is in place yet, nothing organized, but here’s a picture of how things are coming along.

Here’s Matt, hamming it up and painting at the same time. Imagine that…

Here’s the finished room.

Speaking of things coming along – the baby is really growing (as am I). Check out the baby bump at 28 weeks.

Baby shower, here we come!

Update on the growing baby

A quick update on the status of baby McGarity. Apparently he’s very healthy, and growing fast. I started to feel him kick about 2 weeks ago, and Matt has felt him a couple of times too. Last night baby kicked so hard that we both witnessed my belly move. Totally weird and wonderful at the same time.

There Goes the College Fund

Busy weekend for Baby Boy McGarity: he got his first two pieces of furniture, just in time to take forever to get here during the holiday rush.

Graco Lauren Crib

Graco Lauren Crib

The first was his new crib, the Graco Lauren that was highly thought of by Consumer Reports.  Our style is generally modern, with little of the ornamental flourishes that you find in some north Texas homes — the crisp, clean lines of this crib will suit us well.

Saving money on the crib allowed us the luxury of splurging on the all-important glider, where both Jenn and I will be spending many sleepless nights rocking The Boy to sleep.  Ladies and Gentleman, meet the Best Chair Braxton.

The above picture shows you the style of the chair, but we will have different upholstery (more of a green microsuede, highly resistant to newborn puke and drool — or so we are told).
